Shabbat Services

Main Service

Friday Night:

Mincha and Kabbalat Shabbat commence in the Steinfeld Beth Hamedrash, the quarter hour on or after the commencement of Shabbat.

Ruach Kabbalat Shabbat takes place periodically at private homes: Winter 17:30 | Summer 18:30

Shabbat Morning:

We offer two Ashkenazi services on Shabbat Morning.

In the main Synagogue, a chumash shiur commences at 9am and the Shabbat morning service usually begins at 9.15am with Reading of the Torah at around 10am.

In the Steinfeld Beth Hamedrash, the Saatchi Minyan Study session begins at 9.15am, the Service at 9.30am and Torah Reading at 10.15am

Each week, all services come together for a delicious and friendly Kiddush, to which everyone is invited.

Main Service:

The main service offers a variety of styles from Choral Chazanut to more in-formal participatory services. For details of a particular week or Guest Chazan please see the calendar.

Our Visiting Cantor is Cantor Avreimi Kirshenbaum. Cantor Kirshenbaum leads services at St John’s Wood on selected Shabbat during the year and over Selichot and the High Holy Days. Choral Services are accompanied by the Neimah Singers under the direction of Marc Temerlies or Jonathan Weissbart.

Participatory services in the main Synagogue are held on all other weeks and are led by Rabbi Yossi Binstock or other guest Chazanim.

Saatchi Minyan:

The Saatchi Minyan is an interactive, engaging and musical service. We consider Synagogue a journey bringing you closer to G-d, yourself and community. Understanding what is going on and participating is integral to helping you have a meaningful and enjoyable experience.

Our services are held in the Steinfeld Beth Hamedrash. We also welcome periodic guest speakers and host a monthly Birthday Kiddush.

Shabbat Afternoon:

Mincha is approximately one and a half hours before the end of Shabbat. A shiur is given over Seudah Shelishit between Mincha and Ma’ariv. Maariv takes place at the termination of Shabbat.
